Pre-Kindergarten & Junior Kindergarten Programs: Our Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K), is for children age-qualified for kindergarten (ideally turning five years old between June and December 2) who would benefit from “The Gift of Time” to ready themselves for current kindergarten programs. Today’s kindergarten is a demanding class setting with a focus on reading, writing, and math. Our Pre-K class prepares children for the high expectations of kindergarten by giving them the opportunity to learn in all developmental areas: physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. Our Pre-K class is far more structured than our preschool program. Interactions and activities are designed to develop self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning language, literacy, math, science, health, physical education and social studies. The program includes field trips, dramatic play, art, story dictation, poetry, music, movement experiences, cooking, and carpentry. Our Junior Kindergarten (JK) provides the younger Pre-Kindergarten child the same curricular opportunities as the older (Pre-K class), while meeting their age-based needs for exploration of self. The Pre-K and JK classes are held in a classroom separate from our pre-school classes. These kids share the outside area with the preschoolers. Co-oping adults (Pre-K and JK classes) assist in the classroom about once a week and must fulfill duties as explained in the “Family's Role” section of this web site.
