Our school originated from the non-profit "Jack and Jill Cooperative Nursery
School" in Walnut Creek which opened in 1942 in a parent member's home. Later a
lot was purchased and a new building was ready for open house in 1949. In 1962
the school was renamed "Creative Play Center" to reflect its educational
philosophy.
With the increasing demand for quality cooperative preschools, we have grown
by leaps and bounds. Our current location's lot was purchased and built upon in
1965. By 1969 we had expanded to a full Monday through Friday program with both
morning and afternoon classes. Throughout the years we've completed many room
additions which give our school the unique look it has today.
In 1988 we developed our Developmental Kindergarten program. This program is
for children age-qualified for kindergarten, but not developmentally ready to
benefit from the rigors of current kindergarten programs.
During our fifty plus years of existence, we have evolved from a small group
into a well organized corporation. We are grateful to those who worked so hard
to make our school what it is today. Our efforts continue toward meeting future
needs as well as providing the best possible preschool experience for our
children today.
