Preschool is a big step for you and your child. Creative Play Center is a non-profit cooperative preschool, owned and operated by the currently enrolled membership. Along with a qualified teacher, parents assist in the classroom 3-4 times per month. Each class has a maximum enrollment of 24 children, with an adult-child ratio of 1:4. We welcome children of any race, color and national or ethnic origin.
Each day starts and ends with circle time - a time for songs, stories and sharing. During snack time, our class is broken down into groups of 3-4 children per adult for a story or game. The rest of the day is fairly unstructured, with children free to pursue their interests. Children are allowed to learn at their own pace and in their own ways. We offer a spacious, well-equipped environment which encourages children to be active and creative explorers. Our school includes: - Outside Play: Our outside area includes a large, newly-built play structure, swings, sand box, wooden boat and airplane, play barn, flowering trees, spring blooming bulbs, autumn pumpkin patch and paved tricycle paths.
- Pretend Play: We have dozens of children's costumes and other items for pretend play, including a playhouse, dolls, blocks, cars and trains. This area also features puzzles and games.
- Creative/Art: A planned creative activity is always offered. We also have a "free-art" table where children create their own projects with paper, glue, scissors, etc.
- Curiosity/Science: Each day in our "curiosity corner" a different hands-on discovery activity is featured. We may look at x-rays or examine fossils or shells, make leaf-rubbings or experiment with different textures, shapes and sizes.
- Stegel:The unique "Stegel"; is an adjustable indoor/outdoor piece of equipment (set up differently each day) which allows children to climb, balance, slide and swing.
- Animals: We are home to many animals which the children are involved in caring for - rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, fish, a snake and rats.
- Library: We own a large selection of children's books, as well as a parent education (free) lending library.
Most days there is a central theme throughout the day's activities - like "apples" in September, "spiders" or "bones" in October or "leaves" in November. The theme will show up in the art project, the story read, the songs sung and the hands-on discovery activity. The children learn about a wide variety of things…all while having fun! |
